Someone shared this story about a lawyer who was cross examining a wife accused of mixing poison in her husband’s cup of coffee. When asked if she was sorry for doing such criminal act, her response was; “ Yes, I felt sorry when he asked for another cup.”
Our Lord felt sorry for the rich young man in the Gospel who could not detached himself from his possessions and follow Him. He went away sad. ( Mt. 10:17-30). That’s what happens when you prefer the world over God’s word. When you prefer your choice over God’s command by destroying life than preserving it, being mean than kind and merciful. There’s joy when you chose the “ Word over the World”, giving God the priority over everything else or when you forgive rather than hate. We experience mercy through the joy of the Gospel. In the midst of decadence and frustration the Word of God is our hope and strength, light in darkness and guidance in confusion. Sometimes people say that they found solution to their problems, feel comforted and inspired after reading the bible. Are you that person? It’s not a surprise when you feel peace in the midst your personal life’s storms when you read the Bible, the Word of God for then He abides with you. “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and Word was God.” ( John 1: 1).
Pain is a constant companion to those of us with gout or arthritis. But worst than pain is dishonesty, pride, greed and selfishness. If you are that type of person, you lose the trust of your friends and when trust broken, it’s is like pieces of glass beyond repair.
All Souls Day is coming up. When we begin to slow down and be forgetful, then we realize that life is fragile and fleeting and that we carry nothing when we exit from this earth except the good things born out of our preference of the Word over the world and the love and kindness we did to our neighbor. It’s time to unload and dispose unnecessary burdens from your heart, mind and soul.
Some people are hungry for affirmation for their accomplishments. But the best affirmation is the assurance of the love of God, our family and friends. Your self-worth doesn’t come from the prominence of your family, your car, house, title, position, possessions, academics, big business or other worldly bearings. It comes from God who created you from nothing and saved you from your sins through Jesus’ suffering and death on the Cross. You have nothing to proud of, Man! Be proud of Him who loves you no matter what.
On the flip side, someone said that stress, anxiety and depression are caused when you are living to please others. Strength grows in moments when you think you can’t go on, but you kept going anyway. Remember that a smooth and calm sea doesn’t make a skillful sailor. I admire people who choose to shine even after all the storms they have gone through in life. Stay away from negative people, they have a problem for every solution. They say that beauty is not about having a pretty face, but having a pretty mind, a pretty heart and a pretty soul. Amen on that folks!!
