Someone shared the story about a couple who had a civil wedding officiated by the mayor of their town. When they asked him why he did the ceremony in a silent manner, the mayor said; “ Isn’t it that you wanted a secret marriage?
There was a man who was deaf and dumb healed by Jesus. But he first set him apart from the crowd and in that solitude, he cured him. (Mk. 7: 32-35). Sometimes, healing of our body, mind and soul happens in silent moments with God. Setting ourselves away from the crowd doesn’t necessarily mean to be insensible or unmindful of crowd, in fact we can united with the rest of our community in a unique way through silent prayer. Silence speaks louder than words, so they say.
Sometimes, the Lord draws us away from the crowd by sending us certain illness, pain, cold shoulder from the superior, mean treatment, grief and unjust deprivations to lead us to his heart that’s so wounded by the sins and ingratitude of humanity. He wants to be in solidarity with us in our struggles and hardships in life.
The strong typhoon Mangkhut just left Guam couple of days ago to the Philippines. Science and technology have no match before the unfolding fury of nature and in the course of its onslaught, all we could do is pray to God for protection and safety. In the midst of darkness for those of us without power, it was a good time to reflect the beautiful message and meaning of being away from the bright lights with a simple candle thinly illuminating our darkened room. It is likened to Jesus, the Light who shines in our darkness, our hope and our salvation.
The Virgin Mary avoided the limelight but kept her obedience and sufferings in silence. There are those who love to be mentioned, praised and complimented. Better please God not the crowd.
In our busy schedules, appointments and social gatherings, may we not forget or postpone our time with God, friends and family. God will get us through our life’s storm for there’s a reason for the things that happen or not happen in our life. We just have to Trust his Divine Mercy.
On the flip side, someone said to give your burdens to the Lord and He will take care of you. “Let us not grow tired of prayer: confidence works miracles”. ( St. Therese of Lisieux). Always do your best. What you plant now, you’ll harvest later. To make a difference in one’s life you don’t have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful or perfect. You just have to care. Some people create their own storms, then get upset when it rains. Being positive in a negative situation is not naïve. It’s leadership. Take time to do what makes you happy. Sing karaoke or recreate, you deserve it. Anyone can find the dirt in someone. Be the one who finds the gold. ( Prov. 1127). Learn to say no without explaining yourself. Show respect even to people who deserve it; not as a reflection of their character, but as a reflection of yours. Did I hear someone say that Silence is the most powerful scream? Amen on that folks!!
St. Faustina wrote Jesus words; “ The humble prayer disarms the anger of My Father”. ( Diary 320).
