Mount Carmel School recently announced that school principal Mrs. Frances Taimanao has been appointed by the school’s board of directors to serve as the acting president for the 2021-2022 school year.

This transition comes as no surprise to the MCS community. In 2020, school president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero communicated to the school’s board of directors that he intends to apply for Northern Marianas College’s president position. In May of this year, “Dr.G” was unanimously elected by the Northern Marianas College’s board of directors as the institution’s next president.

Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero made the recommendation to the Mount Carmel School’s board based on Mrs.Taimanao’s professional experience,  years of commitment to the school, and his confidence in her abilities to lead Mount Carmel during this transitional period.

“Mrs. Taimanao was well aware of my potential departure from MCS well before I applied to serve at the college,” shared Dr. G. “There is no doubt in my mind that Mrs. Taimanao is the most suitable person to serve as acting president.”

Mrs. Frances Taimanao has over twenty years of teaching experience through the CNMI Public School System and fifteen years of teaching experience at Mount Carmel School. She earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education from the University of Guam and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in education from Framingham State University through Northern Marianas College. Additionally, Mrs. Taimanao has served a total of five years as principal and has taken on many leadership roles at MCS.

“I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity to serve as the school’s acting president,” stated Mrs. Taimanao. “Through Dr. G’s leadership these last ten years, Mount Carmel School has grown tremendously and we aim to continue the culture growth well beyond his administration. I would like to especially thank Bishop Ryan P. Jimenez and the school’s board of directors for their faith in me as they prepare an official presidential search committee.”

Mount Carmel School’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Vicente Babauta commented on this transitional year as they work closely with Bishop Ryan Jimenez to organize a presidential search later this year.

“On behalf of the board of directors, we fully support Dr. G’s recommendation to have Frances serve as the acting president during this time. Mrs. Taimanao was instrumental in ensuring the safety of the school community and through her leadership, MCS has all the current safety protocols in place to open face-to-face.”

Mount Carmel School’s 2021-2022 school year is scheduled to start on Thursday, August 12, 2021. Registration is ongoing for certain grade-levels. Mount Carmel School recommends that families register as early as possible before grade-levels reach its restricted capacity.
