It all started Mt. Carmel Youth youth sports fest. last year with an Ministry (MCYM) this year, the Diocese initiative from – an inter-parochial of Chalan Kanoa itself is spearheading the annual sports fest through the newly established Youth Commission.

Last year’s sports fest was well received by the youths of all parishes with the exception of the two parishes in Rota. Fr. Rey Rosal and the San Jose Parish in Tinian came with the largest delegation and left victorious as the overall champion. Hundreds of participants played and competed in basketball, volley- ball, tug-of-war, obstacle course, ultimate Frisbee and even hotdog eating competition.

Mr. Edward dela Cruz, then MCYM Coordinator was over- whelmed by the response as they were only expecting small participations. Last year, they were projecting a small Sports Fest with around 65 participants but the number of youths who registered on the opening day soared to around 235 participants, not including the chaperones and adult volunteers from different parishes. This year, as the new coordinator of the Diocesan Youth Commission, he and his team are more prepared to host what everyone expects from now on as an annual diocesan event every summer.

This year’s Sports Fest will be on July 11 – 14, 2018 at Mt. Carmel School ground. The games are extended to a 4 day instead of a 2-day event in order to organize better the different games from elimination rounds to championship games. Games that will be featured are the same as last year.

Youths from different parishes have begun to organize themselves while they look forward to the Sports Fest. Some youths have already been conducting basketball or volleyball practices. Many parishioners are also looking forward to see their parish priests in action once again. Last year’s sports fest featured some of the clergy participating in the games to the delight of their parishioners.
