What’s Your Identity?

People identify us in different perceptions and perspectives. Each of us is unique and unduplicated, even twins are not exactly the same only identical. You are you and that’s how God created you.

Consider this story shared by somebody. A girl in the neighborhood often attracted the attention of the people wherever she went because of the big red birthmark that spreads over her left eye all the way to her face and partly covers her lips. Many felt sorry for her but she was undaunted, in fact she was always jolly and loves tagging along with her Mom. When a friend asked her one day whether she feels embarrassed with her birthmark, she quickly said; “ not at all,”  and she pointed to her face stressing that her Mom always tells her that it’s where her guardian angel kissed her just to mark her out only for her Mommy. She said that her Mom always assures her of her especial love for her, that she can easily identify her even in the middle of the crowd. She gave her friend good parting words by telling her that she felt sorry for her and all other children in the neighborhood who don’t have a birthmark.

What‘s in you that attracts attention? Is it your looks or the way you look at people? There are those who spend much time and even money maintaining their physical features. Remember that beauty fades but good character remains. Let your kind heart be your identifying character for that’s how the Lord is identified by his sheep. God looks at your heart, not so much on your brain. Identify what’s good in the person, not the bad. “ Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul.” ( Proverbs 16:24).

As you admire other people and see the beautiful things around, remember that you are one of them, unique, blessed and especial, created by God for his own  purpose. He chiseled you into a masterpiece according to his image and likeness. He breathed into you his Spirit and claims you as his own. The Cross is our Christian identity and spiritual birthmark.

On the flip side, someone said; “ never say mean words out of anger. Your anger will pass but your mean words can scar a person for life. So use kind words or be silent. Trust only in God and you’re truly safe and secure; anything else is false security. Never be afraid to fall apart. It represents an opportunity to rebuild yourself. In our waiting, God is working. God knows who belongs in your life and who doesn’t. Trust and let go. Whoever is meant to be there will be there. Sometimes God puts us in the dark to show us that He is the Light. God is good even when life is not. Some people will never like you because your spirit irritates their demons. People don’t abandon people thy love. They abandon people they were using. Remember that most of your stress comes from the way you respond, not the way life is. Adjust your attitude, and you all that extra stress is gone. Amen on that folks!!

St. Faustina wrote Jesus’ words’ “ I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish.” ( Diary 48).
