San Roque Youth Night Got Great Turnout

On Saturday, November 11, the newly commissioned San Roque Parish Youth Ministry (SRPYM) held its first event: a youth acquaintance and worship night. The theme, “Where You Belong,” gathered over 100 participants for a night filled with team-building games and songs of reflection and worship led by the SRPYM Youth Band and Dance Group. Attendees of the event came from various parishes, including Mt. Carmel Cathedral, Santa Remedios, and Kristo Rai.

During the event, the youth were randomly grouped when participating in the night’s games. As Romeena Manzon, officer of the Ways and Means Committee, mentioned, these games focused on getting to know each other first and foremost as it is an important step in team-building. “You need to know who your group members are so that you’re able to work together,” she stated. This, indeed, was a vital step for the attendees as they continued working within their groups in their attempts to win the various games throughout the night.

Fr. Allan Rubett Cabatian, OAR also gave a short talk with the participants regarding belongingness. As depression and other mental health issues continue to arise, he noted that it is important that the youth of today’s society have a place where they feel like they can belong. For him, that place is within our parishes/churches.

SRPYM President, Jace Pineda, expressed her excitement for the event. “It was a great turnout. We had a lot of active participants, and it was amazing to see the youth of the various parishes coming and working together as one. I hope they all had fun. This is only the beginning for our youth ministry. There will be more events forthcoming, and it is my hope that we will continue to see a growing number of participants at these events. On behalf of the San Roque Parish Youth Ministry, I’d like to extend my most sincere gratitude to all the participants and sponsors for the evening. Special thanks to Fr Harold, Sr. Emma and Sr. Nina and to our parish elders who supported this youth activity. This event would not have been successful without you.”

“Holy is our God!…We’ll shine for Your glory!” The San Roque Parish Youth Band led the participants in the worship songs during the Youth Night at San Roque Church last Saturday, November 11, 2017.
