We are grateful to God that the damage of Typhoon Mangkhut was not more severe.
As readers are probably already aware, Saipan and Tinian were spared the worst of the damage but Guam and especially Rota were hit quite hard. Many residents of Rota are said to still be in shelters indefinitely while repairs to their homes are being assessed.
One thing is certain: there are immediate needs that must be met, and Karidat is collaborating with other volunteer organizations to respond as quickly as possible and reach individuals and house- holds with the help they need.
Karidat’s plan is to purchase commodities such as water and non- perishable food items (as available on Rota) and set up a distribution system on Rota as soon as possible. Some of Karidat’s staff will be traveling out to Rota soon to personally oversee distribution. One reason to purchase locally is to meet a second objective of helping to stimulate Rota’s economy in the wake of the storm.
Here’s what you can do to help:
As the relief items will be purchased on site in Rota, we are requesting monetary donations oNlY
All donations can be made directly to KARIDAT and are tax-deductible
Please bring your donations to KARIDAT’s main office in Chalan Kanoa at the Sister Remedios community center.
