Seeing that the launch of Project Mom was an enormous success, the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa launched a similar project in celebration of father’s Day: Project Dad.

In just a week, donations of over a hundred pieces of clothing had been accumulated from every parish on island, all of which were still in great condition and ready to wear.

On Saturday, June 16th, the Joeten Dai Dai Social Hall had been set up as where fathers from the community could choose from the many dress shirts, T-shirts, and pants available. Ideally, one person could get one article.

“This is such a big help to us,” expressed one of the fathers who came to see the hundreds of clothes on display. He went on to say how the project was a blessing, especially towards those who have low incomes.

Another father who had happened to be passing by the social hall entered, and after having learned more about the project, excitedly left to get his daughter so that she could be the one to pick something for him. She settled on choosing a colored dress shirt patterned with fishes.

The event went on from 8:00am to 5:00pm and was continued the following day (Father’s Day) from 8:00am to 1:00pm. A numerous amount of fathers poured into the social hall after the 11:00am Sunday mass, clearing every rack, and leaving nothing but hangers, proving that the event was successful to say the least.

All the clothing that were not distributed are donated to Karidat, so the entire project was for a good cause.

Many fathers happily agreed to the idea of having the project be held again next year, so it is something that could possibly be in the works.

Now, the Diocesan Commission Of Marriage and Family Life looks forward to hosting more new projects that can benefit our community and church.

A heartfelt thank you to all those who donated and came out to support the event.
