The 2022-2023 school year is a special year for all Knights at Mount Carmel School. It is the first school year where students and teachers aren’t plagued with the fear of the covid-19 virus and the restrictions required to keep its community safe. It is the first school year since 2020 where students and teachers can engage normally and all activities are reinstated to promote school spirit and morale. It is also the year Mount Carmel School celebrates its seventieth anniversary, celebrating seventy years of faith, service, tradition, and excellence.
With all to be thankful for, the Mount Carmel School community participated in many holiday events to spread the Christmas spirit. This included the Marianas Visitors Authority’s holiday competitions, caroling for the community, a school Christmas Show, and the concluding with the “Three Kings Concert” held this past Friday, January 06, 2023.
In the Marianas Visitors Authority’s holiday competitions, Mount Carmel School won first place in the High School Skit Contest, with its elementary and middle school winning second place. During the Recycled Christmas Tree Competition, Mount Carmel School won third place and placed fifth in the Christmas Village Competition. This momentous holiday festival is once again organized by the Marianas Visitors Authority, in coordination with the CNMI Public School System, private schools, PDM Promoters, and Pacific Development Inc.
Prior to the school’s holiday break, even Mount Carmel School’s Choir aimed to spread the Christmas cheer by caroling throughout the campus and accommodated a special request to carol at the CNMI courthouse. On December 16, 2022, the school community presented its annual Christmas Show, showcasing acapella performances by each grade level with members of their family cheering in the crowd.
To wrap up the holiday season, Mount Carmel School’s Concert Band hosted its “Three Kings Concert” which included a special collaboration with the MCS Wind Ensemble, MCS Middle School Music Class Choir, MCS Choir, and the Tumon Bay Youth Orchestra.
While the holiday season is an incredibly busy time of the year, there is much to be thankful for. School president Mrs. Frances Taimanao shared, “For about two and a half years, we have all lived with fear about the pandemic, but during this Christmas season our school community aimed to celebrate all we have to be thankful for. We’ve survived a major challenge in our history, but our spirit continues strong and as the holiday season comes to an end, Mount Carmel School wishes everyone a joyous and happy new year.”
