Holy Week Guidelines for Parishioners

In light of the continuing health crisis we are currently dealing with the Clergy of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, in their meeting held last 24 March 2020, collectively decided to continue across all parishes the following directives:

• No public Mass until further notice

• Everyone is invited to participate in the online celebration of the Holy Eucharist via 

o Facebook @dioceseofchalankanoa 

• Daily:  6 AM/ 6 PM

• Sunday: 6 AM / 9AM / 11AM / 6PM

o Cable TV Channel 6

• Daily: 6 AM / 6 PM

• Sunday: 6 AM / 9AM / 11AM / 6PM

o Radio on 1440 AM and 92.1 FM

• Daily: 6 AM / 10AM / 6PM

• For those who want to pray in private all Churches will remain OPEN from 7AM to 1PM

• Everyone is highly encouraged to strictly practice Social Distancing

Also, as health precautionary measures and in keeping with the Enhanced Social Distancing Memorandum issued by the Office of the Governor, the following will be observed during the Holy Week:

A. Palm Sunday (April 5)

No public blessing of palms.  

A separate time will be designated later in the year for actual blessing of palms in parishes. 

Holy Eucharist will be celebrated without congregation on designated churches:

• Saipan – Mt. Carmel Cathedral

• Rota – San Francisco de Borja Church 

• Tinian – San Jose Church 

Parishioners are invited to participate via Facebook, Cable TV and/or Radio.

Live streaming will follow the regular Sunday schedule.

B. Chrism Mass (April 8)

Holy Eucharist will be celebrated without the congregation at Mt. Carmel Cathedral.

Parishioners are invited to participate via Facebook, Cable TV and/or Radio.

Live streaming begins at 7:00 P.M.

C. Holy Thursday (April 9)

Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated without congregation on designated churches:

• Saipan – Mt. Carmel Cathedral

• Rota – San Francisco de Borja Church 

• Tinian – San Jose Church 

Parishioners are invited to participate via Facebook, Cable TV and/or Radio.

Live streaming begins at 6:00 P.M.

Following the decree from Congregation on Divine Worship and Discipline of Sacraments, parishioners are reminded of the following:

• No washing of the feet

• No transfer of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose

• No vigil and “Visita Iglesia”

D. Good Friday (April 10)

Schedule of worship services without congregation will be as follows:

• Stations of the Cross at 8:00 A.M.

• Divine Mercy at 12:00 P.M.

• Seven Last Words at 1:00 P.M.

Parishioners are invited to participate via Facebook, Cable TV and/or Radio.

Live streaming of all services will be as indicated.

Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion, Veneration of the Cross, and Communion Service without congregation will be done simultaneously on designated churches:

• Saipan – Mt. Carmel Cathedral

• Rota – San Francisco de Borja Church

• Tinian – San Jose Church 

Parishioners are invited to participate via Facebook, Cable TV and/or Radio.

Live streaming begins at 3:00 P.M.

Following the decree from Congregation on Divine Worship and Discipline of Sacraments, parishioners are reminded of the following:

• No annual trek to Mt. Tapochao and similar activities in Rota and Tinian

• No island-wide processions in all 3 islands

• No veneration of the “Santo Entiero”

E. Easter Vigil (April 11)

Vigil will be celebrated without congregation on designated churches:

• Saipan – Mt. Carmel Cathedral 

• Rota – San Francisco de Borja Church

• Tinian – San Jose Church 

Parishioners are invited to participate via Facebook, Cable TV and/or Radio.

Live streaming begins at 7:00 P.M.

F. Easter Sunday (April 12)

Holy Eucharist will be celebrated without congregation on designated churches:

• Saipan – Mt. Carmel Cathedral

• Rota – San Francisco de Borja Church

• Tinian – San Jose Church 

Parishioners are invited to participate via Facebook, Cable TV and/or Radio.

Live streaming will follow the regular Sunday schedule.

In all celebrations the parishioners are reminded of the following:

• Observe customary ways of disposing oneself when participating at Live broadcasts of Mass and other worship services as if one is attending physically at the church 

• Pray and reflect in silence

• Sacrament of Reconciliation is highly encouraged.  Contact your respective Pastors to schedule a specific date and time.
