Jesus said; “ This people honors me with their lips but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts.” ( Mk. 7: 6-7). Let God be the direction and purpose of our life’s journey. Let us not so much focus on the values of this world and externalities that are here today and gone tomorrow, rather focus on God who can show us the right way and purpose of life. Those who put more importance on quantity, admiration, public opinion and approval will likely feel empty and sad in the end because beauty fades and public acclamation is just momentary.
Life is not a show but a living of God in our daily routine and building up our relationship with him. There are those who spend much time seeking public approval and applause through performance, looks and talents. For us, let’s put more emphasis on God’s approval through humility, love, mercy, compassion service and generosity in all seasons, with or without public applause.
Let’s make sure that we who preach the Word of God don’t preach about ourselves, our titles, achievements, positions, functions, ratings and possessions, but about HIM. There’s the temptation to feel sel-sufficient and fulfilled having done much, but the truth is that we still have much to learn about lowliness, simplicity, humility before God and dependence on him. The lesson we can learn about self-importance and self-worthy is that they are not really important and worthy. Let us not put so much emphasis on our plaques and accomplishments but on Him who gave them to us and who approves us. You are more important than your works and accomplishments.
On the flip side, someone said that truest friends are people who don’t walk out the door when things get very hard, but get a chair and sit down with you. St. Pope Pius 1X said that; “ In our time more than ever before, the chief strength of the wicked lies in the cowardice and weakness of good men. All the strength of Satan’s reign is due to the easy-going weakness of Catholics.” You’re never a loser until to quit trying. It’s time to celebrate success but it’s more important to heed the lesson of failure. A person who never made a mistake, has never tried anything new. The best way to predict your future is to create it. Pleasure on the job puts perfection on the work. Are you a teacher? Take note that teaching is a profession that creates all other professions. Amen on that folks!!
St. Faustina wrote Jesus’ words; “ Fear nothing; all difficulties will serve the fulfillment of My will.” ( Diary 634).
