Lately, news feeds have been full of stories of hurting families who are suffering separation from their loved ones. Whether it is parents who are being forcefully separated at the U.S. border, refugees fleeing war and violence, or parents who must go abroad in order to have a chance to provide for their families—it is heartbreaking that so many parents and children are enduring such anguish and suffering.
At Karidat and throughout our Diocese, we try to express our solidarity with those in need in whatever way we can—whether materially, emotionally or spiritually. Even still, sometimes the helplessness we feel is overwhelming and, in those instances, there is nothing left to do but turn it over to the Lord in prayer.
On this Father’s Day, we ask our loving Father to especially care for the fathers of families who find themselves separated by long distances.
_______
God of all, everybody is part of your family.
Protect all the families in the world especially those whose homes have been destroyed by war.
Watch over all families who are separated by distance because of…
…forced migration,
…war or deployment
…a parent who must travel in order to make a living
…a family member who has gone missing
…a broken relationship
…a visa or immigration-related issue
…incarceration
…hospitalization away from home.
Lord, please take care of all those who cannot be with their families for any and all reasons.
Comfort those who are hurting or lonely and bless also all those who care for them.
Bless all families that they may be united in love and affection, though separated by distance.
Amen.
