40TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE DIOCESE OF CHALAN KANOA

My Beloved Priests, Permanent Deacons, Religious Men and Women, and Lay Faithful of the

Diocese of Chalan Kanoa,

Peace be with you!

“Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord!” – this is the responsorial psalm in the Liturgy of the Word for today, Friday of the Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time. I personally consider this very providential as we mark the 40th anniversary of the canonical establishment of our Diocese. Thus, I invite everyone to join and go rejoicing to the house of the Lord in your own parishes today as we will simultaneously celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at six o’clock in the evening, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and agape. May today be a moment of celebration of our unity as a diocese and as one People of God.

As we commemorate this anniversary, I challenge all of us to become more involved in the life of our parishes, to recommit to God’s service, to be more generous – not so much of giving more; but of giving more of ourselves so that we can work and walk together in realizing our communion, participation, and mission toward a synodal church.

Let this anniversary remind us of our true vision to be united to love Christ, live in Christ, and serve Christ in one another.

Rejoicing in Christ’s love,

/s/ VERY REV. FR. CHARLIE A. BORJA

In his homily, Bishop Ryan shared about the pectoral cross that was given to him by Pope Benedict XVI on December 16, 2011, when he was the Apostolic Administrator of the diocese. This cross has always been on his altar and Bishop Ryan only used this cross on his Mass at the Cemetery last Monday upon learning about the death of Pope Emeritus and today’s Requiem Mass.
