Over 300 middle school and high school students participated in Mount Carmel School’s Activities Fair this past Wednesday, August 22. Held every year and sponsored by Student Council, students were able to sign up to various extracurricular activities available at the school.

This year’s fair featured booths from the school’s athletic teams, Theatre Club, VOX Knights, and many new clubs such as the Chamorro Club, Junior State of America (JSA), and the 4-H Club.

The students were very excited about the various clubs available to them. Sophomore, Brandee Hunter, said, “I signed up to five clubs because I’m really interested in joining them. I’ve seen the work they did in the past, and I felt very inspired.”

It’s also a big year for the school’s athletic teams. When asked about the upcoming volleyball season, Karen Sato, a senior, said, “We couldn’t get championships last year, so we’re going to train and work harder as a team to bring it back this year.”

For its part, Theatre Club is set to produce a musical called Tasi, which was inspired by Disney’s Moana. First-time director, Kalea Borja, explains that pride in our islands and culture is important, which is why she wanted to direct a play all about it. As she put it, “I wanted to direct something that would bring our cultural roots to life while having having a whimsical, theatrical background.”

Clubs and organizations are now getting ready for the upcoming Students’ Leadership Retreat, in which all activities will be planned for the school year.
