POSTPONING

Someone shared the story about a person who joined a support group for procrastinators. Know what? They haven’t met yet.

In John’s Gospel 6:24-35, Jesus was kind of disappointed over the people who were following him when he said, “ Amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you’ve seen signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.” They were looking for physical satisfaction not for spiritual values, and continued postponing their personal conversion and belief in the Messiah, at times demanding a sign. ( Mt. 12:38-39).They were looking not really for Jesus, the “ Bread of Life”, but just for bread.

There are people who spend a lot of time if not their lifetime looking for something that will perfectly satisfy their wishes and aspirations only to end up finding nothing? Is it a perfect husband, wife, family, career, society, church, school, place and the list goes on? Worse are those who by their rude conduct or abuse of power and authority are looking for trouble.

What are you looking for? When will you stop looking for prestige, honor power and praise and start looking of for Jesus? The crowd in the Garden of Gethsemane that night was looking for a bad reason, to arrest him, falsely accuse him and eventually put him to death. How often do we look for Jesus in the wrong places of events of our life?

On the personal note, why postpone your decision to stop your smoking, drinking, gambling habits and other vices that are counterproductive for a healthy life? Why postpone your desire to convalidate your civil wedding to Catholic marriage? When will you convert your cohabitation into a Sacramentalized union? Why postpone your going to Confession and receive Holy Communion if you’re disposed to? Why postpone your baby’s Baptism for reason of material considerations? Why postpone your forgiving of someone’s misgiving and make peace? Tomorrow may be too late, now is the right time.

Tragedies, accidents and health issues remind us that life is unpredictable and fragile, anything can happen anytime, anywhere, anyhow. May we not regret  having postponed righting up our life or sought worldly ambition over our moral integrity and spiritual necessities? May we not regret having aspired for selfish plans and dreams over meaningful life and our soul’s salvation. “Stitch in time saves nine”, the old adage says. They say that hell is a place of regrets.

On the flip side, someone said that mental pain is increased when you pretend you’re okay when you’re not. Finding the right person begins in you. Did I hear someone say that dead people receive more flowers than the living because regret is stronger than gratitude. Some people will notice the change in your attitude towards them, but won’t notice their behavior that made you change. Anyone can find the dirt in someone. Be the one who finds the gold. ( Proverbs 11: 27). Careless words can never be unspoken, only forgiven. To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you. ( C.S. Lewis). Prayer is the world’s greatest wireless connection and the sweetest time of the day prayer because you’re talking to Someone who loves you the most. There’s one thing that God sends to every believer, regardless of circumstances, “ Trust Me”. Amen on that folks!!

St. Faustina wrote Jesus words; “ Every conversion of a sinful soul demands sacrifice”.( Diary 961).
